Talking helps.
When struggling with painful emotions, with personal relationships, with problem behaviors, with alcohol or drug use, itís important to talk to someone.
When life throws you a curve, talk to a friend. When there are too many curves, talk to a psychologist, a counselor, social worker or other qualified mental health professional.
Not feeling well takes many forms. Chronic emotional stress can make many physical symptoms worse, including the experience of pain, and can be a negative factor in disease processes. Counselors and therapists are valuable resource people to support the care of medical conditions.
Does counseling work? Yes. Research has repeatedly shown that psychotherapy resolves or decreases painful emotions and promotes changes in behavior.
